Softball Defeats Seattle U, Falls to No. 20 Mississippi State

Bailey Wallace (3-for-6, 2 RBI) leads Titans in Day Two split at Mary Nutter

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's softball split Day Two at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic after beating Seattle U 4-1 before falling 4-2 to No. 20 Mississippi State. The Titans are 9-5 overall and stand 2-2 at the tournament. 

Cal State Fullerton 4, Seattle U 1

LHP Staci Chambers (pitched a scoreless six innings with three hits and four strikeouts for her fifth win of the season. 

Megan Delgadillo (1-for-3, 2 RBI) extended her hit streak to 13 games as lead-off hitter in the bottom of the first inning and recorded her 10th stolen base of the season shortly after. Delgadillo has 28 hits on the season and holds the program's record for most career stolen bases (217). She went on to become the first run of the game on an RBI unassisted ground out to first base by Ava Arce. 

Delgadillo grounded out to third base for her own RBI of the game in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead over Seattle U. A sacrifice fly in the fourth inning awarded her a second RBI of the day, extending Fullerton's lead 3-0. Bailey Wallace (1-for-3, RBI) drove in the fourth and final Titan run of the day with a base hit. 

Ashleigh Dendas entered the game in the seventh inning with a 4-0 lead over the Redhawks and earned her first save of the season after giving up a solo home run to Seattle. 

#20 Mississippi State 4, Cal State Fullerton 2

Mississippi State jumped on the board in the first inning with a sacrifice fly to Delgadillo in center field. Delgadillo snapped her 13 game hit streak after going 0-for-3 at the plate. 

Freshman Jazmin Williams (1-for-2, R, RBI) launched her first collegiate home run over the left field wall in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1. 



Wallace (2-for-3, RBI) put the Titans ahead of the Bulldogs 2-1 with help from a three-base error that followed Williams's solo shot in the third.

Mississippi State added a run with Haley Rainey in the circle to tie the game 2-2 in the fourth inning. With runners on second and third, LHP Leanna Garcia entered the game for the Titans with one out on the board. Under her command, the Bulldogs were able to bat the leading run in for a 3-2 lead over the Titans. While the run was accredited to Rainey, Mississippi State found momentum to score a run off Garcia to earn her the loss. Chambers pitched the final 2 ? innings for the Titans, allowing one hit and striking out two. 

The Titans complete their time at the 2024 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic against Nebraska on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
