Titans Run Rule No. 5 Tennessee, Fall to No. 11 Missouri

Softball splits Day One of the Mary Nutter against two ranked teams

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's softball defeated No. 5 Tennessee 11-2 in a six-inning run-rule before falling to No. 11 Missouri 3-0 on Day One of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Titans stand 8-4 on the season and are 1-1 at the tournament.

Megan Delgadillo (4-for-7, RBI, 3 R, SB) extended her hitting streak to 12 games and recorded her ninth stolen base of the season. Delgadillo has 116 stolen bases as a Titan and is six away from breaking The Big West record for most stolen bases in a career (Leslie Simien (UCSB),121).

Cal State Fullerton 11, #5 Tennessee 2 (6 innings)

The fifth-ranked Lady Vols beat the Titans to the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to center field. This was the second and final hit of the game for Tennessee batters. LHP Leanna Garcia (2.0 IP) allowed both Tennessee hits, but kept the Lady Vols to one run. Hailey Harris (1-0) relieved Garcia, pitching four innings with no hits, one earned run, three walks and two strikeouts.

Jazmin Williams started the scoring for the Titans in the third inning with an RBI single she turned into an extra base on the throw. Tied at 1-1, a two-run single to center field by Jessi Alcala put the Titans ahead 3-1. Bailey Wallace (1-for-2, 2 BB) and Megan Delgadillo (3-for-4, RBI, 3 R, SB) scored on the play.

Delgadillo kept the momentum going in the fourth with an RBI single through the left side to score Peyton Toto. Alcala followed with another single through the left side, driving in Delgadillo and pinch runner Kate Verhoef for a 6-1 lead over the Lady Vols.

Toto (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) sent her first home run of the season over the left field wall to extend Fullerton's lead 8-1.

The Lady Vols scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the fifth without recording a hit. The inning started with a hit batter who stole second base. A pair of ground balls advanced runners around the bases which scored the run.

Hannah Becerra (sacrifice fly) and Mia Weckel (single) broke double digits for the Titans with an RBI each in the sixth inning. Sarah Perez scored on a wild pitch after pinch running for Wallace to complete the 11 runs scored by the Titans. Harris pitched to three batters in the bottom of the sixth to secure a run-rule victory against the fifth-ranked Lady Vols.

#11 Missouri 3, Cal State Fullerton 0

Haley Rainey got out of a bases loaded situation with a strikeout to end the first inning after the Titans went down in order to open the game. Rainey pitched a scoreless five innings, striking out the side to end the fourth inning, before giving up a three-run home run that would win the game for Missouri later on.

Ava Arce recorded the first hit for the Titans in the second inning with a double to left center, but was not followed with enough offensive production to drive in a run.

Delgadillo sent a base hit into right field to open the sixth inning but became the first out of the inning as Bailey Wallace reached on a fielder's choice. Wallace was left stranded, entering the bottom of the sixth inning with no score.

Missouri found success in the bottom of the sixth inning, hitting a three-run home run for a 3-0 lead over the Titans. Arce got another base hit in the top of the seventh but was not enough to beat Missouri.

The Titans will serve as the home team for Day Two of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Saturday against Seattle University at 12:00 p.m. and No. 20 Mississippi State at 2:30 p.m.
