Titans Rally in the Seventh, Beat LMU 9-5

Alexia Lopez (1-for-3, 3B, 2 RBI) retakes lead in late-innings

Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team defeated Loyola Marymount University 9-5 after a seventh-inning rally on Wednesday. The Titans improve to a 7-3 record before traveling to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Friday. 

The Titans took an early 1-0 lead over the Lions in the top of the first inning on two hits and a defensive error. The Big West Field Player of the Week, Megan Delgadillo, increased her hitting streak to 10 games with a single through the left side. Delgadillo stole her seventh base of the season before scoring on an error by LMU's first baseman following a sacrifice bunt by Bailey Wallace. Following the game, Delgadillo remains perfect in steal attempts with eight on the season and 115 total. 

Staci Chambers (7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) entered in relief of Haley Rainey in the bottom of the first inning after LMU crossed home plate safely four times with no outs on the board. Chambers got out of the jam with no further damage, and retired the side with 10 pitches (3 ground outs) in the second inning. 

The Lions held a 4-1 lead over the Titans through the third inning until Kate Verhoef drove in Jazmin Williams with a single up the middle in the fourth. The Titans found themselves down by three again in the bottom of the fourth inning as LMU's catcher barreled a ball over the left field wall for a 5-2 lead.

Peyton Toto advanced the runners on a sacrifice fly in the fifth, allowing Jessi Alcala to reach home safely to trail the Lions 5-3. The Titans made it a one-run ballgame in the top of the sixth on an RBI single up the middle by Wallace that scored Delgadillo, who reached on an error by LMU's third baseman. 

Titan bats came alive in the top of the seventh, putting together a seven-hit rally. Hannah Becerra and Ava Arce opened the inning with a back-to-back singles before Alexia Lopez retook a 6-5 lead for the Titans with a one out, two-run triple to right-center field. 



Canndace Yingling turned on the first pitch that fell into center field for an RBI single. Up 7-5, Alcala (3-for-5, 2 RBI) snuck a ball through the left side to drive in Delgadillo (single) and Verhoef (single).



Chambers (4-1) secured a 9-5 win for the Titans after facing five batters in the bottom of the seventh. 

Softball travels to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. Friday, Feb. 23 for five games in three days. They play No. 5 Tennessee, No. 11 Missouri, Seattle University, No. 20 Mississippi State and Nebraska.
