Titans Fall to BYU in Extras, Beat ASU at Littlewood Classic

Delgadillo gets hit #200, Alcala and Arce power offense

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's softball team fell to BYU (6-5) in extra innings, but beat Arizona State 4-3 at Day Two of the Littlewood Classic on Saturday. The Titans are 2-2 at the Littlewood Classic and 6-2 on the season. 

Megan Delgadillo (.679) achieved 200 career hits against BYU after going 8-for-9 (5-for-5 vs. BYU) on Saturday. Delgadillo has 205 total career hits and is four hits away from surpassing Nikki Hart (1997-99) for the 10th most career hits as a Titan. 

Jessi Alcala (4-for-9, 3 RBI) and Ava Arce (2-for-2, 3 RBI) drove in six of the nine runs for the Titans between the two games. 

BYU 6, Cal State Fullerton 5 (8 innings) 

The Titans and Cougars remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when BYU scored two runs for a 2-0 lead. The Cougars doubled their lead in the fourth inning to 4-0. 

Fullerton bats were able to answer with one run in the top of the fifth innings as Jessi Alcala sent a ball into right-center field for an RBI double that scored Megan Delgadillo. 

The score remained 4-1 for the next inning and a half until the Titans found momentum in the top of the seventh inning. With one out on the board, Delgadillo and Bailey Wallace reached on singles to opposite sides of the field, setting up Alcala for an RBI single through the left side. 

Down 4-2, Kika Ramirez hit a ball just out of reach of BYU's middle infielder for an RBI single that made it a one-run ballgame. Ava Arce entered the game as a pinch hitter and gave the Titans their first lead of the game (5-4) with a two-run single. 

BYU forced the game to extra innings after tying the game at 5-5. The Titans stranded runners at second and third base in the top of the eighth, setting the Cougars up for a walk-off win. BYU's Maddie Udall drove in the auto-runner with a single to right-center field with two outs on the board to secure a 6-5 win over the Titans. 

Haley Rainey (7.1 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 8 K) pitched her second complete game of the season and stands 2-2 on the season. 

Cal State Fullerton 4, Arizona State 3

The Sun Devils beat the Titans to the board in the first inning and would stay ahead 1-0 until Alcala hit a ball through the middle to drive in Delgadillo. 
 

Arizona State added a run to the board in both the third and fourth inning while keeping the Titans to one run. Down 3-1, Arce knocked in her third RBI of the day with a single through the right side. 
 

The Titans and Sun Devils held the game at 3-2 through the sixth inning. Alcala opened the top of the seventh with a base hit to right field and was followed by a walk issued to Ramirez. Peyton Toto changed the narrative with a two-run triple to right center that gave the Titans their first lead of the game. The Titans held onto their 4-3 lead over the Sun Devils and snapped their two-game losing streak. 

Staci Chambers improved to a 3-0 record after being the third pitcher to appear in the circle. Chambers (3.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K) entered the game in the fourth inning with one out on the board. Leanna Garcia (2.0 IP, 4 H, 2 (E)R, 2 BB, 2 K) earned her first start of the season and was followed by Hailey Harris (1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 (E)R, 3 BB, 4 K). 

The Titans finish their run at the Littlewood Classic against GCU at GCU on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. MT.
