PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's softball team defeated Memphis in a five-inning 13-1 victory before dropping their first game of the season to Cal (6-1) on Friday at the Littlewood Classic. Â The Titans hold a 5-1 overall record.Â
Cal State Fullerton 13, Memphis 1 (5 innings)
Ashleigh Dendas (1-0) earned her first start and win of the season after a five-inning 13-1 victory over Memphis. Dendas (4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) set a dominant tone early, retiring the side to start the game. The Titans rallied in the bottom of the inning to grab a 6-0 lead.Â
Megan Delgadillo led off the bottom of the first with a base hit up the middle. She stole second base and advanced to third on an error by the catcher. Singles by
Sarah Perez,
Hannah Becerra,
Peyton Toto,

Bailey Wallace, and a solo home run to left field by
Jessi Alcala powered the Titans through their six-run inning.Â

KK Christie and
Kika Ramirez. Up 8-0 after two innings, Delgadillo added the ninth run to the board with a single to left-center field in the third inning.Â
Memphis broke themselves out of shutout territory in the fourth inning with a solo home run, but the offense could not do enough to save themselves from a mercy ruling defeat.
Candace Yingling entered the game in the fourth inning to pinch hit for Ramirez and led off with a base knock to center field.
Kate Verhoef replaced Yingling on the bases and stole second to advance herself into scoring position.
Sophia Guevara drove in Verhoef with a double to center before
Ava Arce entered the game for McClinton and launched a ball over the right field wall. Arce's three-run home run extended Fullerton's lead 13-1.Â
Trisha McCleskey relieved Dendas after four innings, securing the win for the Titans after facing four Memphis batters in the top of the fifth inning.Â
Cal 6, Cal State Fullerton 1
The first inning was a blur as
Haley Rainey and Anna Reimers of Cal took turns retiring the side.Â
The Bears struck first in the second inning with a sacrifice fly, forcing the Titans to fight from behind for their second time this season.Â
Hannah Becerra evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth with her 33rd career home run to left field. This would remain the only run of the game for the Titans as Cal responded with two runs later that inning.
Staci Chambers entered the circle in relief of Rainey (2-1) after five innings trailing 3-1. The Bears continued to produce from the box, scoring three more in the bottom of the sixth.
