NFCA Release

DALLAS
– Connie Clark, a 1986 Titan Softball National Champion, was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Hall of Fame as part of its 2024 class on Friday.Ā

Clark, who pitched for the Titans under Judi Garman from 1986-87, won 20 games as a junior and 33 as a senior before being awarded the prestigious Broderick Award given to the nation's top collegiate softball player in 1987.Ā

During the national championship campaign of 1986, Clark posted a 20-2 record, allowing just five runs in 155.1 innings. She remains the program's leader for lowest opposing batting average in a single-season (.086) and most strikeouts per seven innings (8.88).Ā In the Women's College World Series, the Titans went on a perfect 5-0 run, highlighted by Clark's start in the circle against Texas A&M where she pitched a one-hit, 3-0, victory with eight strikeouts.Ā

Across two seasons, Clark posted a 53-7 overall record with an earned run average of 0.37. Only Kathy Van Wyk (with 35 in 1982) won more games and only Susan Lefebvre (with 34 in 1986) had more complete games (32) in a season than Clark.Ā In career statistics, despite only two seasons, Clark holds the record for opposing batting average (.121), while ranking second in winning percentage (.883), fourth in strikeouts per seven innings (7.31) and shutouts (34), and seventh in wins.

After graduating in 1987, the Glendale, Ariz. native gave private lessons locally before beginning her collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Florida State (1990-95). Clark was hired to launch the softball program at the University of Texas as head coach, where she coached the Longhorns to the Women's College World Series in its second varsity season (1998). In 22 seasons, Clark posted a 873-401-3 winning record, while being named the Big 12's Coach of the Year three times.Ā

In 2009, Clark was inducted into the Titans Athletics Hall of Fame.Ā
