Oaks Garcia Adds Softball Great Jenny Topping to Development Staff

The Team USA Gold Medalist, three-time All-American and Hall of Famer joins the support staff as a volunteer specializing in player development

FULLERTON, Calif. – Gina Oaks Garcia welcomes Team USA Gold Medalist, three-time All-American and Hall of Famer Jenny Topping back home as a volunteer assistant specializing in player development ahead of the 2025 spring softball season.

"I am thrilled to welcome back alumna and Olympic Gold Medalist Jenny Topping to our program!," Oaks Garcia said. "Having them on board to assist with player development and data analytics is an incredible asset."

The two All-Americans played together as Titans during the 2001-03 seasons, winning three straight Big West titles together, with Topping earning Big West Player of the Year honors each year. As a Titan, Topping slashed a sweeping program record line of .443/.573/.771 with 137 walks. She remains ranked top five in doubles (44) and home runs (33), while holding the seventh most runs batted in (128).

"My time spent as a Titan has meant so much to me, it was an easy decision to come back and support the program I love," Topping said. "I could not be happier to support my former teammate Gina Oaks Garcia as head coach and I know this upcoming season will be an exciting and successful one."

Jenny Topping Catching (2001-03)

Topping, a Cal State Fullerton letter winner and 2015 hall of fame inductee, was a constant figure on the international stage since returning to Southern California after playing at Washington for a year. She competed with the USA Blue squad at the 2001 Pan Am Qualifier and the Canada Cup before being invited to be a member of the U.S. National Training Team in 2002.

Topping competed in four major international tournaments in 2003 culminating in a trip to Athens, Greece, for the 2004 Summer Olympics where she helped Team USA to a third consecutive Olympic gold medal. Topping also had a chance to compete for a second gold medal as a member of the U.S. National Team in 2008 for the Summer Games in Beijing, but was named as one of three alternates.

Topping went on to become a professional All-Star in the National Pro Fastpitch League where she won a championship with the Akron Racers in 2005. She also played three seasons in Japan for the Toyota Shokki.

Before retiring as a player, Topping became an inductee to the Olympic Hall of Fame, a two-time Top 9 player in Japan, a four-time First Team All-American, the PAC-10 Newcomer of the Year and NPF Champion.

"Jenny's wealth of experience, both on and off the field, will undoubtedly have a proud impact on our players," Oaks Garcia said. "It's truly special to be reunited on the field again, just like the old days!"

Off the field, Topping graduated with a degree in sociology and is the owner of Gold Medal Training Softball. She is a wife to Josephine Topping, and a mother to Faith Topping and David Johnson.
