FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer scored four second half goals to defeat UC San Diego by a final score of 4-1 Wednesday night at Titan Stadium.Â
With the win the Titans improve to 6-3-4 on the year and 2-0-1 in Big West play. Fullerton also extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games dating back to its win over Utah Tech on Sept. 1.Â
The Titans fell behind early, scoring an own goal in the seventh minute of play to give UC San Diego a 1-0 lead. As they have all season, the Titans came storming back in the second half with four unanswered goals.Â
Fullerton has given up the opening goal six times during its 10-game unbeaten streak before finding a way to earn a draw or win. The Titans have outscored their opponents 27-11 over the course of the 10-game unbeaten streak.Â
Reigning Big West Freshman of the Week, Jose de la Torre, got the Titans offense going in the 63rd minute on a beautiful goal from outside the 18-yard box to tie the game at 1-1. The freshman has found his rhythm offensively, scoring a goal in three straight games.Â
Just under two minutes later Jonathan Grado scored his first goal as a Titan to give the team a 2-1 lead.Â
From that point on the game was all Titans. Fullerton out-shot UC San Diego 13-3 in the second half and 22-5 for the game.Â
Mario Carlos scored the dagger for the Titans in the 84th minute to extend the lead to 3-1. Sulaiman Bah and Matthias Heiland assisted on the goal.Â
Fernando Valenzuela got in on the action in the 86th minute to put Fullerton up 4-1. Carlos and Heiland assisted on the goal, giving Heiland two assists in the game .Â
Following their two-game homestand, the Titans head back out on the road to face UC Davis Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
