Titans Lose to Pepperdine at Home

FULLERTON, Calif. - After a tough match last night against No. 7 UC Davis, the Titans men's water polo team were defeated by No. 7 Pepperdine at home on Saturday afternoon at the Titan Aquatics Center.

The Titans fell to 11-14 overall for the season while the Waves improved to 17-5 overall.

Jacob Hatch and Julian Nichols led the scoring output for the Titans with two goals a piece.  Zach Ewing and Dominic Hernandez each picked up two assists.  After Nichols five goals this weekend, he is at 96 career goals in a Titan uniform. Garrett Henderson made five saves for the game. After the weekend, Henderson is now at 310 career saves.

Pepperdine scored the first two goals of the game before the Titans got on the board.  After Garrett Henderson made two saves against the Waves it led to a counterattack where Nico D'Angelo made it a 2-1 game.

The Waves led 3-1 after the first quarter.  They extended their lead to 6-1 in the second quarter before Julian Nichols scored his first goal of the game with 4:37 left in the period.

Nichols scored on the Titans first possession to start the third quarter after he scored his 5-meter penalty attempt.

However, the Waves scored four goals to extend their lead to 11-3 before Tony Benedetti got one back for the Titans.  The Waves led 12-4 after three quarters.

Jacob Hatch scored his two goals for the Titans in the fourth quarter as the Titans were only outscored 3-to-2 for the fourth and final period.

The Titans will spend the next two games on the road as they resume Big West play next week when they head to Long Beach State.  The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
