LONG BEACH, Calif. - A goal in each half was enough to propel the Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer to a 2-0 victory over Long Beach State on Sunday evening at Geroge Allen Field.
The Titans moved to 5-9-3 overall and 3-3-2 in Big West play. The Titans leaped over Long Beach State with 11 points for the sixth and final spot in the current Big West table where only the top six qualify for the Big West Championships.
Both sides had 10 shots for the game with the Beach having a 6-to-4 shot on frame advantage. The Titans earned six corner kicks to the Beach's four corners.
It was a back-and-forth game to start in the first half with both sides having periods of possession and the ball in each other's final third.
Makenna McGill had three early shots with two on frame for the Titans while Liz Worden led the Beach attack early on in the game.
After just checking into the game,
Isabella Cruz made an instant impact on the game. She found
Jenae Perez up the field with lots of room to operate in. Perez took a few touches and hit a perfect looping shot over the Long Beach keeper from nearly 25 yards out to put the Titans ahead 1-0.
The Titans took a 1-0 lead into halftime,
The Titans doubled their advantage very early into the second half.
Kaylee Noble dribbled the ball from midfield into the Long Beach box where she held down by a Long Beach defender for a penalty inside the box. Noble stepped up to the six yard spot and buried it to the keeper's left to put the Titans ahead 2-0.
The Titans had a couple more scoring chances in the half but couldn't quite connect for another goal. While Ranson made three saves for the half and six total for the game. The Titans goalkeeper picked up their 5th win of the season and fourth solo clean sheet. They now have 262 total career saves for second all-time in program history.
With three points separating the Titans from third place and one point separating them from being out of the Big West Tournament picture, the Titans have two more games at home remaining on the schedule. The Titans will host UC San Diego on Thursday, October 24th. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
