BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball dropped a 66-56 road contest against Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday afternoon at the Icardo Center.
The Titans fell to 7-12 overall and 3-6 in Big West play. In five of the six losses in Big West Action, the Titans have lost by double-digits. Â
The Titans were undone by rough physical play from the Roadrunners, a rough shooting night on the floor, and the Roadrunners drilling 12 three-pointers for the game.
Gabi Vidmar led the offense with 20 points including going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. The Titans shot 34.9% from the floor (22-for-63) for the game. Â The Titans hauled in 14 offensive rebounds for the game but could only convert it to 4 second chance points. Â The Titans also committed 19 turnovers for the game. Â The Roadrunners shot 41.9% from the floor.
The first quarter was a solid back-and-forth display with the Roadrunners leading 17-15 at the end of the period. Bakersfield took the lead from the beginning but the Titans were able to respond almost every time to keep the game close. Â When Bakersfield took a 6-point lead at 14-8,
Emily Strachan responded back with a 3-pointer to keep the game within one score.
The Titans took the lead to start the second quarter after
Hope Hassmann drilled a 3-pointer. Â
However, the Roadrunners went on a 10-2 run to take a 30-20 lead over the Titans. Â The Titans were able to bring the game within three points towards the end of the period after going on a 7-0 to make it a 35-32 game. Â However, the Roadrunners converted a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to take a 38-32 lead into halftime.
The Titans outscored the Roadrunners 13-12 for the only time of the game during the third quarter. Â
Gabi Vidmar scored 8 of the Titans 13 points in the quarter with two made three pointers.
The Titans trailed 50-45 heading into the last period of play. However, once again the Titans couldn't complete the fourth quarter comeback after the Roadrunners went on a 8-0 run to start the period to build a 58-45 lead over the Titans. Bakersfield was able to stretch their lead to 19 points with 3:21 left in the game before the Titans went on a 9-0 run to finish the game.
The Titans will have one game next week as they head to the University of Hawai'i on Thursday night. Â The Rainbow Wahine are currently in a three-way tie for first place and beat the Titans in Fullerton in the second game of conference action.
