ORLANDO, Fla. – The Cal State Fullerton Dance Team won its 18
th UDA National Championship, taking first place in the Division 1 Jazz competition at the National Collegiate Dance Team Championship, held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Jan. 12-14.
The Titans Dance Team came back stronger than ever after tying for sixth place in the Jazz division last year. This year was more challenging as UDA added a preliminary round for the D1 Jazz category. Over 30 teams were in the first round, 20 teams moved onto the semi-final round, and 10 teams advanced to the final round. The Titans came out on top and were crowned UDA Division 1 Jazz National Champions. The Big West was well represented which included UC Santa Barbara (7
th place) , UC San Diego (semifinalist) and Long Beach State in the preliminary round. The Titans Dance Team also placed 3
rd in the nation for their Division 1 Pom Routine. The competition will air on ESPN/ESPN2 throughout the year.
"Consistency was our team motto this season. Having a fairly new team with 11 rookies out of 21 athletes, they all made it a goal to be consistent and intentional in everything they did," said Dance Head Coach Jennie Volkert. "They trusted the process from beginning to end, and that was definitely showcased this past weekend. Their confidence shined bright on the National's stage! They were flawless and stunning during every round. More importantly, they represented Cal State Fullerton and the Titans Athletics Department with pure class. I am so proud of them! Go Titans!"
The Titans Dance team will be performing their Pom and National Championship Jazz Routines at the following upcoming Titans Basketball games:
