DAVIS, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team lost 60-55 against the UC Davis Aggies on Thursday night at the University Credit Union Center.
After achieving their first comeback win on Saturday over CSUN, the Titans (6-10, 2-4 BWC) couldn't hold onto their halftime lead against the Aggies. The Titans led 34-28 against the Aggies at halftime but were outscored by 11 points in the second half.
Gabi Vidmar led the Titans with 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting.
Fujika Nimmo had 11 points and
Ashlee Lewis had 10 points. Vidmar was lights out in the first half going 4-for-4 from the beyond the arc, but only made one basket in the second half. The Titans shot 37% from the floor while the Aggies shot 45% from the floor. The Titans outshot the Aggies from 3-point range making seven threes to the Aggies four.
The Titans and Aggies traded baskets early to start the game before the Titans finished the quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 17-10 lead over UC Davis.
Demonnie Lagway ended the quarter with a 3-pointer from the corner and was fouled on the play but couldn't complete the 4-point play.
The Titans extended the lead to nine points to start the second period before the Aggies slowly began chipping away. Vidmar made two three-pointers in the second quarter. The Titans led by six at 34-28 at the half.
The Aggies came out of the gates strong to take the lead over the Titans after starting the period on a 9-2 run. The Titans got the lead back after a steal in the backcourt led to a
Hope Hassmann fastbreak layup.
The Titans and Aggies headed into the fourth quarter knotted up at 44-44.
The Titans and Aggies were tied at 51-51 with 6:27 left in the game before the Aggies took the lead for the final time of the game. The Aggies rattled off six straight points to take a 57-51 lead before
Demonnie Lagway hit a jumper with 2:44 left to make it a 57-53 game.
Gabi Vidmar hit a jumper to bring it within two points at 57-55 with 1:22 left. However, the Aggies made a layup to restore the 4-point lead and the Titans couldn't convert on two chances in the final minute of play.
The Titans will take on UC Santa Barbara at home on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 6 PM.
