FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's water polo defeated Mount St. Mary's 17-10 in their first mid-week match on Thursday night. The Titans secured their 10th win this season, maintaining a winning record of 10-7.Â
The Titans came out firing in the first quarter with a goal by
Togan Ozbek at the 7:43 mark.
Dominic Hernandez grabbed a 2-0 lead for the Titans shortly after, scoring another goal for a 3-1 lead.Â
Hernandez added another goal to the board with a rocket to the back of the net within the first minute of the second quarter.
Julian Nichols added two more to the tally to make the score 5-1. The Titans ran away with the score, 8-2, with completed shots from Hernandez and
Bradley Pearce at the 2:51 mark.Â
Mount St. Mary's found some momentum in the third quarter, but was not enough to stop the Titans from slowing down. Hernandez, Nichols, Alec Issacman andÂ
Jacob Hatch combined for six more goals, giving the Titans a 14-7 lead with eight minutes left in regulation.Â
In the final quarter of play,
Aaron Ayala and
Francisco Paredes dented the twine from a
Tony Benedetti pass, with less than five minutes on the board.Â
With two final goals scored by Hernandez in the last 30 seconds of the game, the Titans secured an assertive win over Mount St. Mary's, 17-10. Hernandez's seven goals marked the most goals scored by one player in a single game this season and now has a total of 28 goals.Â
The Titans will head to the Gary Troyer Invite on Friday against Ottawa University at 12:20 p.m. and Mckendree at 3:00 p.m.Â
