The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team drew 1-1 in their final nonconference match of the season against University of Nevada Las Vegas on Thursday evening in Titan Stadium.
The Titans (2-4-3) continued their 5-game unbeaten streak and received their 3rd draw of the season. With an early goal by the Lady Rebels, the Titans had to make a comeback from being down early in the game
The Titans came out playing strong on both defense and offense but within the 4th minute the Lady Rebels took advantage of a Titan miscue and landed the ball in the back of the net by Mallie Ramirez.
Cal State Fullerton didn't let playing from behind rattle them, as they were continuously knocking on the Rebel's Defense door.
In the 34th minute sophomore Kaitlin Taylor tied up the game. A long ball taken by Fullerton landed in the cleats of Taylor and she ended up in a two-on-one situation and out maneuvered both defenders and took her chance against the goalie, and ended up with an open net. Taylor scored her second goal of the season and second goal of her Titan career.
Â
Starting off the second half was an even playing field, with 5 shots taken by the Lady Rebels and 6 shots by the Titans, the game went back and forth between the two teams.
Goalkeeper
Mia Ranson made six saves in net to keep Fullerton in the game.Â
After facing a season ending injury last season, the sophomore
Mia Mirelez made her 2023 season debut and played 14 minutes.Â
The Titans honored three seniors in a pre-game ceremony. Colette Ledden (who is not an active member of the team this season),
Jesslyn McCave, and
Maddie Phantumabamrung. McCave and Phantumabamrung started and made their Titan debuts in the game. Â
The Titans are set to begin Big West play and take on the University of California Riverside this Sunday, September 17th, in Riverside with kickoff at 7pm.
