Titans Come Up Short in Overtime Against UC Davis in Big West Semifinals

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer fell to UC Davis by a final score of 2-1 in overtime of The Big West Championship Semifinals Saturday night at Titan Stadium.

After giving up a goal early in the second half, the Titans battled for the remainder of regulation looking to find the equalizer. With 18 seconds left on the clock Jorge Quintero scored on a header off of a great ball by Marci Killeen to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime.

UC Davis responded in the 96th minute to take a 2-1 lead on a goal scored by Cason Goodman which would end up being the game-winning goal.

Fullerton had its fair share of chances in the final 14 minutes of overtime to tie the game once again but were unable to find the back of the net.

In the 104th minute, the Titans drew a foul just outside of the 18-yard box to set up a great look at goal off a freekick. Roberto Ordonez took the freekick and had a great strike but just missed wide of the goal and hit the post.

The Titans were relentless on the attack late in the game, recording five shots and four corners in the second overtime period alone. Fullerton out-shot UC Davis 19 to 14 in the game and earned 13 corner kicks compared to just six for the Aggies.

Tetsuya Kadono made a massive save on a penalty kick in the first half of action to keep the game scoreless at the time and resulting in the Titans to only trail by one goal late in the game.

The Titans future is bright with just three seniors on the team this year in Kadono, Michael Diaz and Kyle Kirkland who are all graduating.
