Jones Scores 30 in Loss at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. — Despite a career-high 30-point scoring output from Max Jones, Cal State Fullerton men's basketball fell 85-72 at Nebraska Sunday afternoon. The result moves the Titans to 2-4 on the season.

Jones reached 30 points by shooting 10-of-19 from the floor, knocking down five of his seven three-point attempts. He also added a career-high four steals, three assists and three rebounds in 31 minutes of action. Jones is the first Titan to score at least 30 points since EJ Anosike tallied 33 against CSUN on Jan. 14, 2022.

Donovan Oday also notched a career-high with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting while adding three rebounds. DJ Brewton tallied 10 points, five rebounds and two steals and Vincent Lee had eight points and two blocks for the Titans.

Jones started the game hot, knocking down each of his first three-point attempts as Nebraska led 15-11 early. Brewton scored in the paint, Jones added a basket while being fouled and Oday dropped a lay-in as Fullerton trailed 32-28 with 6:33 left in the half. Jones, Oday and Brewton added another basket each as the Titans trailed 47-36 at the break.

The Cornhuskers extended their lead to 18 in the second half before Jones found Oday for a triple. Jones completed a three-point play to later cut Fullerton's deficit to 14, 64-50.

Nebraska again extended its lead to 18, 78-60, later in the half, but baskets from Jalen Cooper, Oday and a trey from Jones capped a 7-0 Titan run with 2:26 to go. Oday and Brewton scored in the final minutes but the Cornhuskers held on for the 85-72 win.

Fullerton now returns home to host North Dakota on Friday, Dec. 1, at 6:00 p.m. PT.
