FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans season came to end on Thursday as they lost to UC Irvine 1-0 in the Big West Championship Semifinals at Titan Stadium.
The Titans (8-5-7) were looking to avenge last year's postseason loss against the Anteaters but came up short. Â Since winning the 2019 Big West Championship, the Titans have been eliminated in the semifinals or first round of postseason play in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
The Titans were the aggressors in the first half as they had outshot the Anteaters 11-to-2 in the first half. However, UCI scored an early goal to start the second half and the Titans were forced to play catch up and the final shot count ended up being 12-to-11.
In the 49th minute, Emilie Castagna had a shot saved by Mia Ranson that rebounded off the crossbar. Â Erin Covey was there to clean up the finish to put the Anteaters up 1-0.
Mia Ranson made three saves for the games and finished the season with 91 saves.
The Titans finished the season as the Big West Regular Season Champions. Â Ranson was named the Goalkeeper of the Year and Kaylee Noble was also named the Freshman of the Year. Â Makenna McGill, Ranson, Isabella Cruz, and Kaylin Raibon were all named to the All-Big West first team.
The Titans are expected to return almost every starter and almost every player on the team with the exception of Maddie Phantumabamrung and Jesslyn McCave who will both graduate this year.
