Titans Fall to Cornell at Jacksonville Classic

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Despite a Fullerton career-high 23 points from Max Jones, the Titan men's basketball team fell 88-70 to Cornell in the opening round of the Jacksonville Classic Sunday afternoon. The result moves Fullerton to 1-3 on the season.

Jones scored 23 by shooting 7-of-14 from the floor and 3-of-8 from distance, also adding three rebounds and a pair of assists. DJ Brewton followed with 15 points, also a Titan career-high, and nine rebounds while Beril Kabamba had nine points and five boards.

The Titans shot 50% from the floor as a team but gave up 21 turnovers to Cornell's 13, as Cornell also outscored Fullerton 44-30 in the paint.

Jones opened the scoring for the Titans with a pull-up triple as baskets from Brewton and Keith Richard tied the game at nine early. Brewton hit another jumper and Vincent Lee scored in the paint but Cornell took a 34-22 advantage late in the half and went on to lead 43-31 at the break.

Cornell extended its lead, 64-42, eight minutes in the second half despite back-to-back baskets from Jones. Brewton completed a three-point play and Grayson Carper hammered a fast-break dunk to trim Fullerton's deficit, 66-49. Donovan Oday and Beril Kabamba scored a couple of baskets each down the stretch but Cornell went on to win, 88-70.

The Titans return to action tomorrow, Monday, Nov. 20, against Southern Miss in the consolation round of the Bay Bracket on the final day of the Jacksonville Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. PT/11:30 a.m. ET.
