NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball defeated CSUN in four sets (17-25, 25-21, 25-22, 26-24) on the road in its final match of the 2023 season. The win improves the Titans' final record to 2-25 overall and 1-17 in Big West play.
Lyla Traylor paced Fullerton with 15 kills on a .303 clip to go with 12 kills for her sixth double-double of the season. Ameena Campbell notched her ninth double-double of the season with 16 digs and 10 kills, also adding four blocks, two aces and two assists.
Aubrey Beaver added eight kills and three digs while Bianca Martinez posted six kills and five blocks for the Titans, who hit at a season-best .291 clip.
After jumping to a 15-7 lead in the fourth set while holding a 2-1 match advantage, Fullerton saw its lead dwindle as the Matadors took a 23-22 lead late in the set. But the Titans fought back, with a Traylor kill and CSUN error giving Fullerton a 24-23 lead. The Matadors tied it back up at 24 with a kill, but Traylor sealed the match win for the Titans with back-to-back kills of her own.
CSUN took a 1-0 match lead after winning the first set, 25-17. The Titans trailed the entire set, despite a flurry of kills from Traylor, Laura Williams, Campbell, Martinez and Beaver late.
Teams traded points to open the second set, as kills from Williams and Campbell put Fullerton up 10-9. Kills from Aaliyah Fasavalu and Traylor extended the Titans' lead to seven, 19-12. A Beaver kill followed by a CSUN attack error gave Fullerton the 25-21 set win.
The Titans got out to an early 10-5 advantage in set four following a setter's dump kill by Mya Tillman. The Matadors came back to take a 19-18 lead, but a pair of Campbell kills and a Nadia Koanui ace capped a 4-0 Titan run to put Fullerton up 22-19. Another pair of Campbell kills and one from Martinez then sealed the 25-22 set-three win before the Titans went on to take set four and the match.
