Softball Sweeps Matadors

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton won games two and three against CSUN on Saturday to sweep the three-game series. The Titans won the first game by a score of 3-2 and the second 9-1 in six innings. Fullerton moved to 24-11 overall and 9-0 in Big West play. Dating back to 2019, the Titans have won 15 straight league games, sweeping each of the last five series. The Titans haven't lost a Big West three-game series since playing at UC Santa Barbara on May 12-13, 2017.

GAME ONE
Ellie Zellien moved to 5-0 on the year for the Titans as she threw 5.0 innings with a line of 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB and 3 K. She loaded the bases in the first inning but got out of it and settled in to retire nine straight batters. Prior to exiting the game she surrendered a two-run homer run in the sixth. Dani Martinez entered the game with a runner on first and no outs but threw 2.0 scoreless innings, recording her second save of the season.

Offensively, the Titans had solo shots from Kelsie Whitmore (7) and Irie Siofele (2) as well an RBI from Daisy Munoz to give Zellien and Martinez enough run support to earn the win.

GAME TWO
Sophie Frost earned the win to move to 12-3 on the year. She posted a line of 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB and 3 SO. Alexia Silva finished off the game in the sixth inning with one walk and one strikeout.

After being somewhat stymied in the first two games of the series, the bats came alive for the Titans in game three with 10 hits.

Megan Delgadillo went 2-for-3 at the dish with two runs scored and a walk but the highlight of the offensive production came in the third inning when the Titans launched three home runs. Hannah Becerra hit her eighth of the season (tops in the Big West) and then after two outs, Julia Valenzuela (4) and KK Humphreys (5) hit back-to-back home runs to bust the game open.

Jody Cova took her first at-bat of the season in the fifth inning and grounded out to shortstop but drove in a run. Becerra then ended the game in the sixth when she hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Delgadillo. But, a Matador error allowed Alyssa Hernandez to score from second and secure the run-rule victory.
