Softball Swept at No. 15 ASU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TEMPE, Ariz. - Cal State Fullerton softball was swept by the No. 15 Arizona State Sun Devils on Tuesday afternoon. ASU won game one 8-0 in six innings and then the second by a score of 5-2. Fullerton will put its 2-4 record up against Loyola Marymount on Thursday for a doubleheader in Los Angeles. Start times are set for 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. PT.

GAME ONE
Allison Royalty was dialed in for the Sun Devils in the circle. Megan Delgadillo singled and walked, the only other two baserunners were Hannah Becerra (single) and Kelsie Whitmore (HBP). She struck out nine in five innings.

ASU scored an unearned run in the second inning but Titans pitcher Sophie Frost had allowed just three hits through four innings. But the fifth inning is when the Sun Devils opened the game up. After a leadoff homer to extend the lead to 2-0, Frost recorded two outs but then hit the next batter and was relieved in the circle by Savannah Serrata. Serrata then walked two batters before allowing a home run to push the lead to 6-0. The Sun Devils then ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with two singles and a double to score the final two runs.

GAME TWO
The Titans struck first thanks to some small ball. Delgadillo walked to leadoff the game, stole second, advanced to third on a sac bunt, then scored on an RBI groundout by Becerra.

However, Arizona State responded in the bottom of the first with a pair of unearned runs to take the lead.

The Titans had three hits in the top of the second that led to one run. With the bases loaded, Delgadillo singled to left to drive in KK Humphreys and tie the score at two. Unfortunately, three were left stranded to end the inning.

Chambers was in a groove until the bottom of the fifth when ASU went on a two-out rally that included a solo and two-run home run to push the lead to 5-2. Frost got the final out of the fourth and pitched a scoreless fifth inning as well. Freshman Ellie Zellien pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
