Box Score 2 FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton softball split the first day of the Easton Invitational as the Titans lost to the Beavers of Oregon State in game one but defeated the Utah State Aggies 5-4 in game two. Freshman Staci Chambers came on in relief and threw 4.2 scoreless and hitless innings in game two to earn the win.
GAME ONE
The Titans opened up the season with three runs in the first inning thanks to a two-RBI single from Julia Valenzuela that scored Daisy Munoz and Bailey Wallace.
Fullerton gave one back in the second but responded in the third with a double from freshman KK Humphreys that scored Megan Delgadillo. The scored stayed 3-1 until the fifth when Missy Nunes hit a two-run homer for the Beavers to tie the game.
The Beavers then scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh to push the lead to 5-3. Fullerton had the 2-3-4 hitters up for the bottom of the seventh but couldn't get a rally started to extend the game.
GAME TWO
The Titans struck first once again as leadoff hitter Delgadillo reached on a single to get things started. She then stole second, Bailey Wallace singled and then both runners advanced on a groundout. Munoz walked to load the bases and then Delgadillo scored on an RBI from Irie Siofele.
Utah State scored four in the third thanks to a three-run homer from Gab Jimenez and a solo shot by Kennedy Hira on consecutive at-bats.
Fullerton responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third to tie the score at four. Munoz singled to score Wallace and then Alyssa Hernandez smoked a double to left center to drive in Siofele and pitch runner Remington Ross.
Valenzuela, the catcher, hit just the third triple of her career and the first since 2018, to drive Siofele in what would end up being the game-winning run.
Chambers entered the game in the third and shut it down. She earned the win in her collegiate debut with a line of 4.2 innings pitched, zero hits, zero runs, one walk and four strikeouts.
