FULLERTON, Calif. – The men's and women's outdoor track and field team begin their fourth meet of the season this weekend as they head to Riverside to compete in the UC Riverside Spring Classic Invitational.

The three-day meet will host five Big West teams including UC Riverside, CSUN, Long Beach State and UC Irvine, along with seven other Division I schools.

The Titans return to the track after a very successful showing at the USC Trojan Invitational last weekend, setting two new school records and a flurry of personal records.

The men's squad saw two of their second place finishes break school records in both the 200m dash and the 4x400m relay.

Freshman Thaddeus Smith III shattered the previous school record in the 200m dash that was set by teammate Josh Gordon last season with his time of 20.92, besting Gordon's time by 0.27 seconds.

Smith also ran a leg in the men's 4x400 meter relay team, also comprised of Darion Zimmerman, Luis Matos and Josh Gordon, that also set a new school record as the quartet ran a time of 3:09.67, shattering the previously set time of 3:10.46 that was set back in 2002.

The Titans also saw eight additional second place finishes with four coming from the women's side in the 4x400m relay (India Owens, Alexandria Stewart, Elizabeth Claustro, Zuri Henderson – 3:45.04), high jump (Ty'Jalayah Robertson – 1.65m), triple jump (Robertson – 11.94m) and hammer throw (Jessica Flores - 59.88m).

Flores' performance of 59.88m in the hammer throw ranks 2^nd in the Big West while the 4x400m relay team's performance leads all other Big West opponents.

On the men's side in addition to the 2^nd place finishes in the 200m and the 4x400m relay, the Titans also had strong 2^nd place performances in the 100m dash (Penick – 10.71), 400m dash (Zimmerman – 47.01), 400m hurdles (Diego Courbis – 52.67) and the 4x100m relay (Penick, Smith, Zimmerman and Matos – 40.40).
