FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team dropped its second consecutive game to 22nd-ranked Arizona State, 10-3, behind a three-run home run from Chelsea Gonzales and a grand slam off the bat of Bethany Kemp at Anderson Family Field on Thursday evening.

With the game still undecided heading into the fifth inning and the Sun Devils leading 3-1, ASU's Abby Spiel led off the frame with a bunt single. Amber Freeman drew a walk to put two runners on with one out and Gonzales put the game out of reach by pulling a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence. The Sun Devils capitalized on a pair of Fullerton fielding errors in the top of the seventh as Kemp delivered the final dagger with a grand slam.

Gonzales (1-for-3) collected three RBIs and scored two runs. Kemp (1-for-4) scored once while driving in four RBIs. Sierra Rodriguez also had a standout performance for ASU, recording a 3-for-5 outing at the plate.

After surrendering an opening run to the Titans, Arizona State's Dale Ryndak (7-2) went the distance tossing the full seven frames, scattering nine hits and two earned runs. Other than a slight slip up in the seventh when Fullerton was able to string together a few hits, Ryndak stifled the Titans' bats and limited their opportunities by walking only one and stranding five base runners.

Fullerton starter Christina Washington (7-3) also recorded a complete game, yielding 12 hits and only five earned runs among the 10 total due to less than stellar defense from the Titans.

CSF manufactured a last ditch effort to close the deficit in the bottom of the seventh as junior Samantha Galarza doubled down the left field line. With one out, Mikaela Francis entered the contest as a pinch hitter and reached base on a Sun Devils' fielding error. A pair of RBI singles from freshman Samantha Vandiver and University of Arizona transfer Courtney Rodriguez cut the deficit to 10-3, but Ryndak shut door forcing Delynn Rippy to groundout.

The Titans will continue their long weekend hosting No. 14 Auburn (23-1) tomorrow in day two of the Judi Garman Classic at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif.

Game Notes: The all-time series between CSF and ASU has narrowed to a 24-22 record in favor of the Titans…CSF is 1-3 on Thursday's and 6-4 in home games...Vandiver captured her fourth multi-hit game while extending her hitting streak to a team-high seven games…The three Fullerton errors is a season-high.
