Pam Newton, who competed for Cal State Fullerton for two seasonsin 1982-83 after a standout career at Mt. SAC, completed her secondseason on Kelly Ford's staff as an undergraduate assistant coach.She is responsible for baserunning, the short game, and assistingcoach Araujo with the defense. 

Last season, she helped lead the Titans to a quick6-0 start to the season after a sweep of the Fullerton hostedEaston Tournament, marking the best start for the program since the2000 campaign. Chalking up an overall record of 33-21-1 and afourth place finish in the Big West, the Titans reached the 33-winmark for the first time since 2007 after posting five more winsthan a season ago. In Big West play, the Titans produced a mark of13-11, totalling an identical number of conference wins from the2013 season, but with three less losses. 

In her first season in 2012-13, Newton helped the Titans finish28-28 and a win in their final 13 of 15 games. 

"I am so excited about what Pam brings to the field, to our teamand to our staff. She's been a mentor, colleague and friend for solong and has so much fantastic experience to bring back to CalState Fullerton," head coach Kelly Ford said. "As a person she is adose of inspiration for everyone she comes in contact with and I amthrilled to make this announcement."

An area mainstay as one of the top juniors coaches, she foundedPam Newton's All American Softball Club in 1992 and has beentraining young talent ever since. She spent two seasons as anassistant coach at Pasadena City College in 1985 and 1986 helpingthe Lancers to a pair of conference championships and then was theHead Coach at Christ College Irvine (now Concordia College) in 1987and 1988.

As a USA Softball coaching staff member her Jr. National Teamsearned the gold medal at the Pan American Championships in 2002 andwon silver at the VII ISF Junior Women's Softball WorldChampionships. She has been named USA Olympic Committee DevelopmentCoach of the Year twice.

Newton arrived on campus in time for the 1982 and 1983 seasonsand helped the Titans to a 3rd-place finish at the first-ever NCAAsponsored Women's College World Series in 1982. The former secondbaseman anchored the infield for the 1983 national runners-up squadand was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. Shecompeted for Mt. SAC for two years prior earning all-state honors,among others, and will be inducted into the Mt. SAC Hall of Fame inMarch as a member of the class of 2013.

"She will be our head coach for the infield and will bring thisteam such incredible knowledge, they will be fun to watch" CoachFord said. "And, Pam has a vested interest in this program'ssuccess and she personifies the phrase Titan Pride,"Ford added.

Newton resides in Rancho Cucamonga and has two sons, Trevon, 20,and Mark, 12.
