Titans earn fifth-straight Top 25 mid-major ranking, best among Big West programs

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball program ranked No. 5 in Softball America and D1 Softball's Week Four Mid-Major Top 25 Rankings, the publications announced Monday morning. The rankings follow a 5-0 perfect performance by the Titans at the Judi Garman Classic, hosted at Anderson Family Field from February 26 to March 1.

The Titans earned the highest ranking among Big West programs by both publications for the fifth consecutive week, checking in ahead of Long Beach State, which was ranked No. 12 by D1Softball and No. 24 by Softball America. Fullerton has ranked in D1Softball's Mid-Major Top 25 Rankings each week this season, coming in at No. 11 (preseason), No. 18 (week one), No. 15 (week two), and No.8 (week three).

As a team, the Titans slashed .333/.396/.462 with six players batting over .300 in their wins over BYU, Oregon State, Cal, Seattle U and LMU.

Junior outfielder Kate Verhoef posted a .500 batting average with six hits, two runs, two RBI and a walk. She went 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts and made four putouts from center field.

Infielders Sarah Perez and Colby McClinton both batted .400 with six hits in 15 at-bats. Perez accounted for five runs and two RBI, with two walks and a stolen base. At shortstop, Perez flashed her glove skills, making nine putouts and 12 assists with no errors. McClinton led the Titans once again with seven runs scored, three home runs and five RBI. The Hawai'i native stole the only base she attempted to swipe, and contributed 13 putouts with even assists from second base.

Alexia Lopez and Ava Arce added a home run each to Fullerton's victories, while Nataly Lozano added three stolen bases.

Overall, the Titans have slashed .290/.341/.412 with 153 hits, 17 doubles, one triple, 15 home runs and 79 RBI. On the bases, they have successfully stolen 26 of their 31 attempts and scored 90 runs.

Softball returns to Anderson Family Field to host their conference opener against Cal Poly on March 7-8. The Titans and Mustangs open the three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
