Titans Drop 4-1 Extra-Inning Decision to Boise State to Close Easton Classic

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Softball closed out the Easton Classic with a 4-1 loss to Boise State in eight innings Sunday. The Titans finished their opening weekend with a 3-3 record.

Boise State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on two doubles. After allowing the Broncos to plate a run, Trisha McCleskey tossed six scoreless innings before the Broncos broke through with three runs in extra innings. McCleskey (3.74 ERA) struck out nine and improved her season total to 22 strikeouts, moving to 2-2 on the year. Over 24.1 innings at the four-day Easton Classic, she allowed 13 earned runs on 33 hits and seven walks.

The Titans tied the game in the fifth inning when Sarah Coccillos smacked a single down the right-field line to score Sarah Perez from second base. Fullerton started to rally in the bottom of the seventh as Colby McClinton led off with a double, and Alexia Lopez drew a four-pitch walk. However, the Titans left runners on second and third to force extra innings. 

Boise State took a 4-1 lead in the eighth inning after plating three runs on a pair of singles and a double. Fullerton's offense went down in order in the bottom half of the inning. Overall, the Titans left 12 runners on base despite out-hitting the Broncos 9-8. 

Fullerton stranded 12 runners on base against Boise State despite outhitting the Broncos with nine hits compared to their eight.

The Titans travel to Stanford for the Cardinal Classic, where they will face Kentucky, No. 6 Oregon, and No. 18 Stanford from Feb. 12-14.
