FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team sealed a 4-3 seventh-inning walk-off victory over Oregon State on Friday night at the 20th Judi Garman Classic. The Titans improved to 8-9 overall and 2-0 in the tournament.
The Titans took a 2-0 lead after plating two runs on a throwing error by Oregon State's third baseman in the second inning.
Kate Verhoef (1-for-3) and
Maggie Paulovich (1-for-3, R, SB), who opened the bottom of the inning with back-to-back singles, scored on the play.
Oregon State tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning on a two-run home run to right field. The Beavers took their first lead of the night in the fifth inning on a home run off the foul pole in left field.
Alexia Lopez (2-for-3, HR, RBI, R) responded in the bottom of the fifth with her third career home run to tie the game at 3-3. She recorded her 10th RBI of the season and improved her slugging percentage to .580, second-best on the team.
The Titans and Beavers remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, when
Colby McClinton worked her way around the bases after reaching on an error. She scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly to right field by
Sarah Coccillos (2-for-3, RBI, R).
Trisha McCleskey's night ended after 4.0 innings. She allowed three runs on three hits and struck out six.
Leanna Garcia earned her first win of the season after pitching three scoreless, hitless innings in relief.
The Titans return to action at the Judi Garman Classic on Saturday night against Cal at 7:30 p.m.
