GOLD CANYON, Ariz. – Cal State Fullerton women's golf came back in the third and final round to finish in fifth place and earn a spot in the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history.
Heading into the third day, the Titans were in sixth place and two strokes back of Auburn for fifth place. Fullerton made up ground and finished with a 23-over par 887 to edge out Auburn by one stroke for the final ticket to the NCAA Championship.
Davina Xanh led the way individually, finishing in fifth place with a 2-under par 214 (69-72-73). Xanh came out of the gates on fire in round one, shooting a 3-under par 69 before shooting even par 72 on day two and 1-over par 73 in the third and final round.
Zara Ali had a strong tournament for the Titans, placing tied for 25th after shooting 7-over par 223 (75-71-77).
Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith finished with a 10-over 226 to place tied for 33rd (81-74-71). Zermeno Smith came storming back with a 1-under par 71 in the third and final round. After the first round Zermeno Smith was tied for 56th.
Katharina Zeilinger also improved as the tournament went on, finishing tied for 41st after shooting 12-over par 228 (81-75-71). Zeilinger was tied for 59th after the first round and slowly made her way up the leaderboard with a 75 in the second round and a 1-under par in the third and final round. Louise Dahl finished in 53rd place with a 16-over par 232 (79-77-76).
The Titans punched their ticket to the NCAA Championship taking place at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. May 16-21.
