SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's tennis season came to end on Thursday afternoon after the Titans fell 4-3 in a very tight knit match against the CSUN Matadors at the Barnes Tennis Center in the Big West Championship First Round.Â
The Titans were looking to avenge a 5-2 loss earlier this season against CSUN, but ultimately came up just short as it came down to one final match.
The Titans fell behind early after dropping th doubles point. Â The Matadors won in No. 3 doubles 6-1 before the Titans tied it after
Milena Gevorgyan and
Sein Myoung took the No. 1 doubles match 6-3. Â However, the No. 2 pairing of
Kaytlin Taylor and
Seha Yu lost to the Matador pairing of Madison Shepperson/Yuliia Zhytelna 6-4.
In singles, it became a back and forth affair as the Titans tried to play their way back into the match. Â
Seha Yu tied the match at 1-1 after winning in No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-3.  The Matadors went ahead 2-1 after winning No. 3 singles before the Titans tied it back up at 2-all. Â
Sein Myoung continued her perfect run in No. 1 singles after winning 7-5, 6-1 over Yuliia Zhytelna.  The Matadors got to the brink and led 3-2 after winning in No. 4 singles, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.  However, the Titans continued to fight as
Kaytlin Taylor won in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4)
It came down to the final match on court No. 5 where Emma Moratalla Sanz rallied back for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over
Milena Gevorgyan to win the match for the Matadors.
Ellie Johnson's first season at the helm of the Titans came to an end with a 10-10 overall record and a 4-5 record in conference play.  The Titans did miss out on four matches that were canceled due to weather for the season.  The Titans also have a lot to build on with seven players returning from this year's roster and the Titans missing the play of
Emilie Lugon-Moulin who had to redshirt the season after transferring mid-season.
Sein Myoung completed a perfect 9-0 record in singles play at the No. 1 spot in conference play and went 10-0 against Big West Opponents.  Myoung finished with a 15-4 record and won her last 12 singles matches in a row to finish the season.
