LAS VEGAS – For the first time since the program was reinstated in 2009-2010, the Cal State Fullerton women's team has won The Big West Championship.
The Titans dominated the three-day tournament from start to finish, leading after each day and winning by 13 strokes after shooting 3-over par 867 as a team.
Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith took home the individual title, becoming the first Titan to do so since Martina Edberg in 2017. Zermeno Smith shot an impressive 3-under par 213 to claim The Big West title. The junior tied a program record with a 7-under par 65 in the second round while shooting 75 and 73 in the first and third rounds.
Davina Xanh finished just behind her teammate, placing second with a score of 1-under par 215. Xanh had a strong outing, shooting 2-under par 70 in the first round before shooting a 73 and 72 in the final two rounds.
Louise Dahl was another key contributor to the Titans team title, shooting 4-over par 220 (71-74-75) to finish the tournament in sixth place.
Zara Ali had one of her best tournaments as a Titan, placing 10th with a score of 6-over par 222. After shooting a 78 in the first round, Ali improved with a 71 in round two and 73 in the final round to move up the leaderboard.
Katharina Zeilinger rounded out the group with a tied for 28th place finish after shooting 12-over par 228 (75-78-75).
The Titans now await their NCAA Regional location which will take place May 5-7.
