Titans Secure Two Run-Rule Victories on Day Two of Easton Classic

FULLERTON, Calif. – Titans Softball secured two run-rule victories over IU Indy (9-1, 6 innings) and Southern University (12-0, 5 innings) on Saturday. The Titans improved to 3-1 on the season heading into the final day of the Easton Classic. 

Cal State Fullerton 9, IU Indy 1 (6 innings) 

Ava Arce (2-for-3, R, 2 RBI) opened the scoring for the Titans in the first inning on a two-run single to left-center field. Leanna Garcia, who served as the designated player, sent a base hit through the right side to double Fullerton's lead as Arce and Colby McClinton crossed the plate. 

McClinton (2-for-3, R) bunted a ball right back to the pitcher for an infield hit, scoring Sarah Perez from second before being tagged out at second base on a defensive relay. 

IU Indy survived a shutout loss, plating a runner in the third inning on a fielder's choice. 

Fullerton's Alexia Lopez continued the offensive momentum for the Titans in the fifth inning, driving in Perez on a bunt down the third base line to extend the lead to 6-1. 

Jenna Stevens (RBI double), Sarah Coccillos (double RBI) and Annika Sogsti (single RBI) flexed their freshmen power in the sixth inning, driving in Briona Ferdman who reached on a double to center field. Sogsti's RBI single secured the 9-1 victory for the Titans in the bottom of the sixth. 

Trisha McCleskey set a new career-high with her 5.1 inning-outing, where she struck out three IU Indy hitters. McCleskey improved to 1-1 on the season, allowing just one run on eight hits. Eva Hurtado entered in relief of McCleskey in the sixth inning, closing out the game with two consecutive outs, one being a strikeout. 

Cal State Fullerton 12, Southern University 0 (5 innings)

The Titans opened their second game of the day plating five runners on five hits. Arce (2-for-2, R, 2 RBI) started the scoring for the second time with a two-run base hit up the middle. Nataly Lozano sent a ball into right-center for an RBI double, while Lulu Sanchez (sacrifice fly) and Sophia Guevara (single) drove the Titans to their 5-0 lead. 

Six more Titans crossed home plate in the second inning, highlighted by McClinton inside-the-park home run to center field. Maggie Paulovich scored on the play from second base. 



Stevens (1-for-2, RBI), Coccillos (0-for-1), Lozano (1-for-1, RBI, R), Sogsti (0-for-1) and Ferdman (1-for-2, RBI, R), combined for 3-for-7 at the plate against Southern University, driving in three runs. 

Sogsti extended the Titans lead to 12-0 in the third inning after reaching on an error by Southern University's shortstop. 

Leanna Garcia, who started in the circle, improves to 2-0 on the season. In 2.1 innings, Garcia allowed one hit, a walk, and retired three batters on strikes. Hurtado (2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K) closed out the game, and secured Fullerton's third win of the season in a five-inning victory.
