FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team defeated the University of Toledo, 4-1, on Day One of the CSUF/LBSU tournament. Game two against Fairfield University was canceled before the first pitch due to a lightning delay and eventual rainout. The Titans improved to 12-9 overall and are 1-0 at the tournament.Â
Megan Delgadillo led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk and stole her 15th base of the season with
Bailey Wallace in the box. With this stolen base, Delgadillo set a new Big West record for career stolen bases (122). She passed Leslie Simien (UC Santa Barbara, 2001-04) for 121 career steals after tying the record against Oregon State (March 3).Â
Delgadillo was later brought home by Wallace (1-for-2, RBI, SB, BB) who singled to Toledo's second baseman for a 1-0 lead after the first inning.Â
Peyton Toto (3-for-3, 3 RBI, SB) put the Titans ahead 2-0 in the second inning with an RBI single to left center that scored
Sarah Perez from second base. Perez pinch ran for designated player
Ava Arce who earned herself a base hit earlier that inning.Â
Haley Rainey made her 10th start of the season, earning her fourth win. Rainey kept Toledo to three hits in five innings, collecting three strikeouts for a total of 45 Ks this season. LHP
Leanna Garcia relieved Rainey in the sixth inning, where Toledo capitalized on a double to center field.Â
This remained the only run by Toledo, as the Titans secured a 4-1 lead with a two-run single by Toto. Toto collected her 12th RBI of the season and set a new season high by driving in three runs in a single game.Â
The Titans are slated to face Princeton at Anderson Family Field on Friday, March 8 at 6:00 p.m.Â
