FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team fell 4-1 to No. 18 Texas A&M on Friday night at the Judi Garman Classic. The Titans are 10-8 overall and are 1-2 at the tournament.Â
Texas A&M jumped on the board early with two runs in both the first and second inning for a 4-0 lead over the Titans. During this rally, the Aggies faced three arms from Fullerton's pitching staff.Â
After a lineout to third base for the first out of the game, starting pitcher
Leanna Garcia walked two batters and left Friday's game early after being charged two runs off no hits. The two runs scored on an RBI double and single off
Haley Rainey, who entered the circle in the first inning for Garcia. Rainey allowed two more runs on a fielder's choice and a walk.Â
Staci Chambers (4.2 IP, H, 4 K) relieved Rainey after 1.1 innings pitched and held down the fort for the Titans.
Peyton Toto got the first hit for the Titans in the fourth inning with two outs on the board and
Hannah Becerra on first base (walk). Fullerton stranded Becerra and Toto on the bases, but broke up a four-inning no-hitter by Texas A&M's Emiley Kennedy.Â
The bottom of the sixth inning looked promising for the Titans after they loaded the bases on two hit by pitches (
Jessi Alcala and Toto) and a single up the middle by designated player
Kika Ramirez. The Titans followed Ramirez's base hit with back-to-back strikeouts to strand all runners.Â
Jessi Alcala drove in the only Titan run of the night on a hard hit ball just out of reach of the third baseman's glove, scoring
Megan Delgadillo (single). The Titans stranded nine base runners in their 4-1 loss to the 18th-ranked Aggies.Â
The Titans are set to face Fresno State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for Day Three of the Judi Garman Classic.Â
