Marshall Records Career-High 20 Kills on Saturday, But Titans Fall to Long Beach State

Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. – For the second consecutive night Felicia Marshall came up big for the Titans, this time dishing out a career-high 20 kills. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough, as Long Beach State defeated Cal State Fullerton 3-1 (19-25, 26-24, 19-25, 20-25) Saturday night inside Titan Gym.

It wasn't the result the Titans were looking for, but it was a step in the right direction, as Fullerton earned its first set victory over the 49ers since 2013.

Marshall was nothing short of phenomenal, as she boasted a .318 attack percentage and seven digs in addition to her 20 kills. Summer Kerins had one of her best matches of the season, as she came through with 11 kills on a .526 attack percentage to go along with a game-high five block assists.

Alicia Dennis racked seven kills and Gabrielle Barcelos contributed with five. Savahna Costello boasted a team-high 13 digs, while Makenzi Ableman nearly came through with a double-double of her own. She racked a team-high 39 assists and nine digs.

The Titans boasted a sideout percentage over 50 percent in all four sets, including owning a 60 percent mark in the second set.

After a hard-fought opening set defeat, the Titans bounced back in a big way in the second set. After trailing 22-16 in the second, Fullerton outscored LBSU 10-2 the rest of the way to earn an improbably 26-24 victory tie the match up at 1-1.

The Titans carried that momentum into the third set, initially taking a 3-0 lead, but couldn't quite hold on. Fullerton dropped the third set 25-19 and then fell in the fourth 25-20.

Fullerton will celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday, as it'll take on Cal Baptist at 7 pm PT inside Titan Gym.
