FULLERTON, Calif.- The Titans lost 2-5 against UC Santa Barbara this Sunday for their second match of the weekend.
Cal State Fullerton is now 13-5 this season after losing against UC Santa Barbara this Sunday.
It was a very tight match as five of the six singles matches went to the third set.
With this loss, the Titans just gave up the lead in the Big West Conference standings to Santa Barbara.
Fullerton (5-2) is now second tied with Long Beach State (5-2) and right behind UC Santa Barbara (5-1).
The team has only one match left in the regular season. They will host UC Riverside (0-6) on Saturday, April 20th at 11:00am P.T.
The Gauchos took the first point in this dual after winning two of the doubles on Sunday.
It all came down to the result on Court No.3 where Genevieve Zeidan and Jadie Acidera were paired up to face Tiffany Lagarde and Dominika Paterova. The Titans fell short against the Gauchos losing the deciding doubles 3-6.
Santa Barbara kept the pressure on as Tiffany Lagarde gave the Gauchos their second point of the day. Genevieve Zeidan went down in two sets 6-4,6-1.
Sarah Nuno tried to put the Titans back in the game as she was able to pick up a point and reduce the lead. She won her match against Elizaveta Volodko 6-4,3-6,6-3.
Jadie Acidera was undefeated in dual singles this season before this dual. Unfortunately, she came short in the third set and let Lise Sentenac win 6-3,5-7,6-1.
After a long battle on Court No.1, Karla Portalatin went down in three sets against Amit Lev-Ari who took the 7-5,6-7(7),6-2 win and secured the win for the Gauchos.
Luxizi Meng faced the same outcome as her teammate Portalatin as she was able to bounce back in the second set but came short in the third. Juliana Valero from UCSB took the win at No.5 6-1,6-7(7),6-3.
The last ones on the court were Caisey Lee Emery for the Titans against Stephanie Yamada for the Gauchos. Emery was stronger in the third set and was able to give the Titans their second point of the day. She won 6-3,3-6,7-5 on Court No.4.
The Titans will host UC Riverside on Saturday, April 20th at 11:00am for their last match of the regular season. The Titans are still in the race to clinch a top seed for the Big West Conference play-offs. For the last home game of the season, the Titans will take the time to honor their seniors.
