TUCSON, Ariz. - Cal State Fullerton (7-3) would drop the Hillenbrand Invitational finale to host #9 Arizona (6-4) by a score of 6-0.
The Titan offense could not get much going against Taylor McQuillan as they mustered up just three hits. Alexa Neil had two of the hits going 2-3 making it seven straight games that she has reached base two-plus times. The only other knock came off the bat of Deshea Hill, who went 1-3 in the contest.
In the circle, Taylor Dockins made her fourth start of the season throwing two innings giving up two runs on three hits. Sophie Frost would replace her in the third inning and go 2.2 innings allowing four runs on five hits. Dani Martinez would finish the game with 1.1 perfect innings.
Arizona threatened in the first, but Dockins worked out of a bases loaded jam to keep things scoreless going into the second. Unfortunately, the Titans couldn't keep the Wildcats off the board as they plated a pair in the second to take the early lead.
Fullerton could not touch McQuillin through three innings as the Arizona ace was perfect through three until Neil singled to the left side to break it up.
The Wildcats would add two more in the fourth on a pair of one-out doubles and two more on a two-run home run in the fifth.
That would result in a 6-0 loss to #9 Arizona for the Titans as they finished the Hillenbrand Invitational 3-2. It's just the second time this season that Fullerton has been shutout.
The Titans are back in action on Wednesday as they host San Diego State for a midweek matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
