FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (3-1) won another one-run ballgame defeating Utah State (1-3) by a score of 3-2 on day three of the Titan Classic.
Alexa Neil had a fantastic game going 2-3 with a pair of runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Deshea Hill went 1-2 with an RBI and a walk while Irie Siofele and Zoe Richard both went 1-3 at the plate with an RBI each. Ari Williams was the only other Titan with a hit going 1-2 with a stolen base.
In the circle, Taylor Dockins made her second start of the year throwing two shutout innings only allowing one hit while striking out one. Sophie Frost came in out of the bullpen and closed out the game with five innings allowing two runs on four hits and a walk.
Fullerton got the scoring started early as Neil would lead things off with a bunt single and eventually come in to score on Hill's RBI groundout.
The much needed insurance runs came in the fifth as Neil and Siofele hit back-to-back doubles for the first run of the inning. Richard came to the plate a few batters later roping a single off the first baseman's glove bringing in the third Titan run of the game.
Utah State would not be shutout in this one though as Lexi Orozco stepped to the plate with a runner on and belted a two-run shot to left-center cutting the Fullerton lead to just one.
The Aggies would come up again in the seventh and threaten with the tying run on third with two down, but Frost induced a flyout into left to end the ballgame.
It's the third win of the season for Fullerton, all of which have come by just one run. They will wrap up opening weekend and the Titan Classic against Pacific tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
