FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's soccer fell behind 2-0 and were unable to claw back to send the game into extra time. Freshman Kristen Swales scored her fifth goal of the season to pull CSF within one but that would be it for the Titans.
Cal Poly struck first in the third minute when Brooke Rubinstein intercepted a pass in the Fullerton part of the field, she dribbled into the 18-yard box and fired a low shot to beat goalkeeper Allison Poole.
The Mustangs then doubled the lead in the 51st minute when Kelly Kessloff intercepted an attempted clearance by the Fullerton defense right in the center of the 18-yard box. Kessloff collected the ball and struck it into the back of the net.
Swales pulled one back for the Titans in the 61st minute for her fifth goal of the season, tied for the team lead. Dani Baldwin assisted on the goal as she played a long ball to Swales who touched it around the defender and was then 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper who she got the better of to make the score 2-1.
The Titans had 13 shots to eight for Cal Poly. Six of the Titan shots were saved by the Mustang goalkeeper.
Fullerton returns to Titan Stadium on Thursday for the final time this season as it hosts UC Irvine for a 7 p.m. match.
