FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's basketball won its second straight home game as it defeated UC Irvine on Wednesday night by a score of 67-58 Daeja Smith recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Raina Perez had 17 points and six assists to lead the team. With the win, the Titans all but assure themselves a spot in the Big West Conference Tournament.
The Titans led by just three at halftime but broke the game open in the third quarter, out-scoring the Anteaters 17-5 in the frame to own a 15-point lead that they would not relinquish. Fullerton led for just under 30 minutes of the game and led for the entire second half. The team shot 50% from the field (21-42) and 91.7% (22-24) from the free-throw line.
Along with Smith's 19 points (6-8 FGA, 7-8 FTA) and 11 rebounds she pitched in three assists and two blocks. Perez made clutch free throws down the stretch for the Titans to ice the game. She finished with 17 points on 5-8 shooting from the floor and 6-6 from the free-throw line. Perez also recorded three rebounds and two steals. Carolyn Gill just missed a double-double as she tallied eight points and 10 rebounds. Amiee Book pitched in 10 points off the bench as well.
The squad hits the road to play at Hawai'i on Saturday at 5 p.m. PT.
