FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton stayed hot coming out with a 59-52 victory over UC Santa Barbara Thursday night. The victory snapped a seven-game losing skid against the Gauchos and it was the Titans' first win at the Thunderdome since 2014.
Daeja Smith dominated inside recording her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
She was actually the lone double-figure scorer for Fullerton as Carolyn Gill, Raina Perez, and Jade Vega all put up nine points in the win. Perez added a game-high seven assists while Vega is now just three points shy of 1,000 for her career.
The Titans had control the entire game leading for all but a minute and a half. The defense set the tone in the first half holding the Gauchos to just 17 points on 28% shooting. A layup from Gill in the final seconds gave CSF a 10-point lead going into the break.
All Fullerton needed to do in the second half was keep pace with the Gauchos and shooting 58.3% in the third quarter helped do just that.
Ultimately, the Titans would come out victories moving to 11-6 (3-1 BWC) for the season. They will be back in action on Saturday as they host a rematch against UC Davis at 2pm in Titan Gym.
