Irvine, Calif. - The team's top two scorers and the goalkeeper represent Cal State Fullerton on the 2010 All-Big West Conference men's soccer team selected by the seven head coaches.
Juniors Nick Posthuma (Pasadena / St. Francis HS) and Kevin Venegas (Lakewood / Los Alamitos HS) made the first team and junior goalkeeper Trevor Whiddon (Carlsbad / Rancho Buena Vista HS) earned honorable mention. It's the first time since 2006 the Titans have had multiple players on the first team. The squad was dominated by conference runnerup and tourney champion UC Santa Barbara, which had six first-teamers and nearly swept the individual awards.
Posthuma led the team with 9 goals and 19 points while Venegas had 7 goals and 17 points. Posthuma tied for second in the Big West in goals while Venegas was fourth. Whiddon played all but 98 minutes of the season and led the conference with 119 saves, more than 50 percent more than the runnerup.
Fullerton posted a 7-12-2 record overall and 4-6 in the Big West. The Titans went 1-1 in the post-season tournament, winning at UC Irvine and losing at UCSB.
UCSB, which lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Cal, won awards for midfielder, defensive player, goalkeeper and freshman of the year and shared the offensive player of the year trophy. Coach Tim Vom Steeg also was coach of the year.
