IRVINE, Calif.- Senior Julian Okai scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the 70th minute to lift the Titans over UC Irvine and clinch a share of the Big West South Division title at Anteater Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Titans' 10th win of the season tonight also logs Coach Kuntz' 20th victory as a Titan and is the first time Fullerton has posted back-to-back double digit win seasons since 1999-2000.
The Fullerton offense tested UCI's keeper Eliot Farmer by putting seven of their 11 shots on target tonight, forcing six saves on Farmer. The Titans outshot the Anteaters 11-6 while both teams recorded seven corner kicks.
The Titans finally took their chance when a UCI handball rewarded Fullerton with a penalty kick, in which they handed the ball to senior Okai who put it inside the left post to put Fullerton up 1-0.
With their win tonight, the Titans clinched at least a share of the Big West South Division title and will either share or outright win it depending on Saturday's games. A victory at UC Riverside or a CSUN loss/tie will leave the Titans to outright win the title while a Titan loss and Matador win would leave the two teams tied at the top of the South Division.
Cal State Fullerton wraps up the regular season this Saturday as they head to Riverside rematch the Highlanders at 7 p.m.
NOTES: Cal State Fullerton has now won the last three matches against UC Irvine… Titan keeper Elias has now logged 50 saves on the year….
