MESQUITE, Nev. – Former Titan standout Mark Anguiano shot a 14-under par to take first place at the Nevada Open at CasaBlanca and Palms golf courses Thursday afternoon.
Anguiano out-played 217 other pro golfers and five amateurs from around the world. The Whittier, Calif. native beat second place Hans Reimers by just two strokes who finished at 12-under par. Anguiano collects $28,000 for winning the tournament.
Anguiano started the tournament strong with a 6-under par 66 with seven birdies on the day. He then carried his momentum into the second round with an impressive 8-under par 64 with nine birdies to propel him to the top of the leaderboards heading into the third and final day where he was able to hold onto his lead with a 1-under par 71.
With nine single season top-10 finishes and 20 career top-10 finishes while at Fullerton, Anguiano still holds the record in both categories.
It might be an understatement to say that 2014 was a good year for Anguiano as a Titan golfer as he was named Big West Golfer of the Year, named golfer of the month twice, recorded a program low-round of 65 and was named to the Division I PING All-West Team and was a part of the Big West Championship team.
