MBB Can't Keep Lead, Falls at Washington

SEATTLE – Cal State Fullerton men's basketball led the Washington Huskies by eight at halftime and by a score of 50-37 at the 17:13 mark of the second half. However, the Titans could not preserve that lead as the Huskies came all the way back to win the game by a score of 84-76 on Tuesday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Washington led for just six minutes of the game but they out-scored Fullerton 50-34 in the second half as six of the seven Huskies that played scored in double figures, led by Jaylen Nowell with 20 points and six assists. Washington forced 15 turnovers that led to 21 points and they had 20 fast-break points.

Junior forward Jackson Rowe had his best game of the season for the Titans as he posted his first double-double of the year with 22 points (9-13 FGA, 4-5 FTA) and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Khalil Ahmad scored a game-high 28 points (10-23 FGA, 5-14 3 FGA, 3-3 FT) to go along with five rebounds and a steal. Senior guard Kyle Allman, Jr. was the third double-figure scorer for the Titans with 15 points (3-8 FGA, 9-10 FTA) and four rebounds. Junior guard Austen Awosika tallied three points, five rebounds and nine assists and three steals with just one turnover in 29 minutes.

The Titans shot 42% (26-62) from the field, 28% (5-18) from distance and 83% (19-23) from the free-throw line. Also, Fullerton won the rebounding battle 39-36.

The squad hits the road again to open Big West Conference action at Hawai'i on Jan. 9 at 9 p.m. PT.
