Colfax, Wash. - Cal State Fullerton men's and women's cross country competed against the best of the best on Friday at the NCAA West Regionals in Colfax, Wash. The men's team earned a 12th-place finish in the 10,000-meter race while the women took 16th in the 6K.
Fullerton scored 385 points on the men's side in 12th, finishing third among Big West schools as they were just behind Cal Poly in 10th (333 points) and UC Santa Barbara in 11th (346 points). Portland won with 65 points while Stanford had 78 in second place.
On the women's side, the Titans had 481 points in 16th place overall and second among Big West teams. UC Davis finished in eighth place with 385 points. Stanford won with 38 points and Washington had 49 points in second place.
Jorge Sanchez led the men's team as he clocked a 10K time of 31:00.4 to take 55th place overall. Jacob Smith was in 61st place with a time of 31:05.7 and Alexis Garcia took 74th place with a time of 31:19.9. Eric Jimenez (94th; 31:40.2) and Erik Gonzalez (101st; 31:45.9) were the final two scorers for the men's team.
Samantha Huerta was the first Titan finisher in the women's 6K with a time of 20:45.1 in 33rd place overall. Trinity Ruelas took 68th place with a time of 21:14.6. Sandra Flores' time of 21:47.4 was good for 119th place while Kelsey Carroll took 125th place in 21:51.1 The final scorer for the squad was Alyssa Block in 139th with a time of 22:01.0.
