AUSTIN - Samantha Huerta, a member of the Cal State Fullerton women's track and field team, earned Second-Team All-America accolades as she finished in 14th place in the women's 800 meters at the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Thursday in Austin, Texas.
Huerta clocked a time of 2:04.90 (60.24 and 64.67 400-meter splits) to take fifth place in heat one and 14th overall in the semifinal. It was a historic year for Huerta as she broke her own school records in each of the 800 meters, 1,500 metes and mile, on her way to becoming the first Titan ever to compete in the event at the NCAA Championships in the 800m. She also became the first Titan to ever win Big West titles in both the 800 meters and 1,500 meters in the same meet. Huerta was named Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Year for her accomplishments.
Iesha Hamm is set to high jump at 3 p.m. PT on Saturday. Hamm cleared 5-10.75 (1.80m) at the NCAA West Preliminaries to tie for sixth place overall to earn a spot in the final in Austin. She is the first Titan to ever compete at the NCAA Championships in the event. Hamm broke her own school record at the Big West Championships with a 5-11.25 (1.81m) clearance, good for a first-place finish, making her the first Titan to ever win a conference title in the high jump.
