SACRAMENTO - Cal State Fullerton track and field wrapped up competition at the NCAA West Preliminairies on Saturday in Sacramento with another school record and trip to Austin on deck. The men's 4x400-meter relay team smashed the school record to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the event. The NCAA Championships will take place on June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Parris Samaniego, Rasaun House, Chris Shiley & Marcel Espinoza clocked a school-record time of 3:05.16 to punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships. They crushed the previous record of 3:08.48 to become the first Titans to ever compete at NCAAs in the event.
"They absolutely crushed it," head coach John Elders said. "I don't even know what to say, they all just ran so well. It was a tough meet for our sprinters but they rallied and put together an amazing race. Marcel closed with a 44.90 leg, which is so fast. I'm so happy for these guys."
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Marquis Rogers, Mason Rollins, House and Espinoza posted a time of 40.57 to take 18th place overall in the event. They could not qualify for the NCAA Championships for the second straight year.
