Volleyball Picked to Finish 6th in Big West

July 29, 2008

Irvine, Calif. - The Big West Conference released its annual preseason volleyball coaches poll Tuesday morning with Cal State Fullerton placing sixth in the nine-team conference in 2008.

The Titans, coming off a 15-15 2007 season, finished with seven conference wins last year for the first time in school history.

Fullerton received 36 of a possible 81 points in the poll, finishing behind Cal Poly, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, Pacific and UC Santa Barbara.

Two-time defending Big West champion Cal Poly was a unanimous selection to again sit atop the league standings after a 15-1 finish in 2007.

Head Coach Carolyn Zimmerman, in her seventh season, will have returners Brittany Moore (RS, Sr., Orange Calif., first-team All-Big West in 2007), Alex Wolnisty (MB, Jr., Riverside, Calif., All-Big West Honorable Mention in 2007) and Erin Sadler (MB, Soph., Bellflower, Calif., All-Big West Freshman Team) to help season five additional returners, an incoming transfer, and a crop of six freshmen as they look to finish higher than fifth place for the first time in the program's history.

The Titans will begin their 2008 season on Aug. 29 at home as they take on Delaware in the Holiday Inn Anaheim Resort Volleyball Classic at Titan Gym.
